• "There are a few cities in China that already have links with Scottish cities, and two years ago we did some research and found that Shenzhen was home to the same sectors as Edinburgh, with the creative and technology sectors standing out".

"...the exchange will significantly boost cultural and commercial collaborations between our respective creative communities and marks the first step in an ongoing partnership between Edinburgh and Shenzhen".

  • Incubating Creativity: from Edinburgh to Shenzhen

Back in 2013, Edinburgh and Shenzhen undertook a commitment to develop links between the creative and tech sectors in both cities. Since then, incubators have been opened to reflect the partnership; in Edinburgh at the Creative Exchange; and in Shenzhen at the F518 ‘Idea Land’.

Following this, Edinburgh and Shenzhen embarked on a series of projects to maximise potential, made possible by thesupport services offered by Edinburgh and Shenzhen. For selected companies in Edinburgh’s tech and creative sectors, the incubator offers free office facilities to companies that wish to explore the Chinese market, tailored support on how to set up and do business in China and crucially, introductions to a network of like-minded people to do business with.

The story so far has been one of success; with several companies (LiveCode, Sensewhere) already settled into their new creative and business homes in Shenzhen. The incubator is a hub of creativity, a beacon of Edinburgh’s wide ranging global reach and an international showcase of its talent.
