Last Monday evening, we were delighted to welcome London based senior Scot Christine Esson to Edinburgh for our How to Crack London and Beyond event, which was kindly hosted by Deloitte.
Christine is a proud Scot currently based in London with over 25 years’ experience as an economic development strategist working in global economic development organisations.
Over the years Christine has worked with many businesses across a number of sectors and supported them in their global growth ambitions. Her particular specialism is supporting start-ups to successfully and sustainably enter new markets.
She is also the co-founder of the fantastic Scottish Business Network alongside Russell Dalgleish.
For this session we welcomed a number of local start-ups and SME’s across various sectors in Edinburgh including tech, PR, events and leadership coaching, all with the common interest of expanding outwith Scotland into London and beyond.
After introductions and some networking drinks, Christine grabbed the attention of those in the room with a set of eye-opening statistics regarding the London market. One of the most astonishing of these was the revelation that if you are to enter the London market you will be competing against “1 new start up a minute”, according to figures from previous years.
Christine successfully aligned the discussion with the interests of those in the room and provided thought provoking comments to each individual and handouts listing key contacts and support useful to those entering the marketplace in London.
"Approaching the London market should be a considered and strategic approach for any Scottish business as it is not an extension of the home market. It is hoped that the questions posed and practical advice provided at the event will provide attendees with a structured approach resulting in sustainable market entry", explained Christine.
To allow the attendees to get the most from the evening we opted for an intimate, interactive session and, due to high demand and limited spaces, the event sold out quickly.
We would love to welcome Christine back again for a similar session so if you would like to attend a similar event in the future, get in touch and our team will keep you updated.
